Each piece begins as a photograph, but the finished image is already envisioned at the moment it is captured. Using a blend of photography and digital painting techniques, the work is completed to reflect how the image was first seen, not simply how it appeared through the lens.

Surfer Girl Sunrise
Captured during an early morning at Carolina Beach, this piece started as an original photograph and evolved into a mixed media artwork inspired by the calm, color, and feeling of sunrise on the coast. Like much of my work, it comes from real moments I’ve experienced while traveling, working, and observing life through a camera lens.

Dad and Son, First Beach Sit
There’s something special about introducing a child to the ocean for the first time. This piece captures a quiet father-and-son moment at Carolina Beach, sitting together at the edge of the surf, taking in the waves, the salt air, and a memory that will last a lifetime.

Great White Breach – False Bay, South Africa
Inspired by a 2001 production trip to South Africa for National Geographic and Discovery Channel, this mixed media artwork captures the raw power and intensity of great white sharks breaching in False Bay. The piece reflects both the danger and beauty of the moment, witnessed while working in one of the most breathtaking natural environments on earth.

Alone at Sunrise
Inspired by quiet mornings at Carolina Beach before the world fully woke up, this piece reflects those rare moments of peace and solitude during family vacations. The silhouette standing alone against the sunrise captures a brief pause before the day begins, a chance to think, recharge, and simply listen to the ocean.

I ❤️ CB
Created in celebration of Carolina Beach’s 100th anniversary, this piece captures the pride, charm, and coastal spirit of the community.

Meet the Artist
Jean-Paul Damé is an award-winning broadcast television cinematographer and Director of Photography whose career began in 1982 working in photography and video production in Southern California. Early on, he worked in broadcast television and music video production, including projects for MTV, where pace, precision, and visual storytelling were paramount.
He later served in the United States Army as an Audio Visual Television Production Specialist, producing training and informational programming for U.S. military institutions during and after Operation Desert Storm. That experience reinforced a disciplined, story-first approach to visual work that continues to shape his creative process.
Following his military service, Damé built a long career as a national network freelance cinematographer and producer, working across news, documentaries, sports, and long-form programming. In 2006, he founded Fire Horse Films, a North Carolina–based production company specializing in broadcast, documentary, and branded storytelling. Now celebrating its 20th year in business, Fire Horse Films has supported national and global clients, drawing on decades of real-world production experience and trusted industry relationships.
His personal artwork grows directly from that professional foundation. Each piece begins as an original photograph, often captured with the finished work already in mind. Through layered treatments that blend photography with painterly expression, and influenced by a lifelong relationship with music, the images evolve beyond documentation into interpretation.
Every piece is titled from the thought he had at the instant the photograph was taken. Those titles offer a quiet point of entry, inviting viewers to connect through their own experience rather than explanation.
